The nine-story tower is 66.90 m (219.5 ft) tall and was the city's tallest structure when it was built. There is a restaurant and café on its upper floors which command a magnificent view of Istanbul and the Bosphorus. Also located on the upper floors is a night club which hosts a Turkish show. There are two operating elevators that carry visitors from the lower level to the upper levels.
The Romanesque style tower was built as Christea Turris (Tower of Christ) in 1348 during an expansion of the Genoese colony in Constantinople. Galata Tower was the tallest building in Istanbul and was built to replace the old Tower of Galata, an original Byzantine tower named Megalos Pyrgos, which controlled the northern end of the massive sea chain that closed the entrance to the Golden Horn. That tower was on a different site and was largely destroyed in 1203, during the Fourth Crusade of 1202–1204.
In 1794, Galata Tower was devastated by a fire, somewhat ironic given that it was serving as a fire watchtower at the time!
In 1875, during a storm, the conical roof on the top of the building was destroyed. The tower remained without this conical roof for the rest of the Ottoman period. Many years later, during the restoration works between 1965 and 1967, the conical roof was reconstructed. During this final restoration in the 1960s, the wooden interior of the tower was replaced by a concrete structure and it was commercialized and opened to the public.
Turkish Pendant lighting, sometimes referred to as drop or suspender lights are a lone lighting fixture that hangs from the ceiling and are usually suspended by a cord, chain or in some cases the use of a metal rod is employed.
Although they are used as solitary fixture, in many cases people often use multiples of the same fixtures to ensure that the room is fully lit.
Turkish pendant lighting can be used in lots of places around the home, using different colours and styles to create a different atmosphere in each room.
The reason that they are referred to as pendant lights is due to the fact that they hang down similar to a pendant on a necklace. When singular pendant lights are used they often hang from a high porch above a door or over a table, however, when people utilize multiple pendants they often group them in a straight line so that they are neat and aesthetically pleasing.
From a visual perspective, Turkish pendant lights come in a wide range of different sizes, both in terms of scale and in wattage. In addition to these physical aspects, pendants lights come in a wide variety of different styles, designs and an array of different colours, allowing you to find something which is suited towards your own personal preference but also compatible with your available budget.

Glass making as a valued profession goes back hundreds of years in Turkey and is thought by most historians to have reached its zenith in the 16th century.
Glass products of this time including flower vases, carafes, drinking glasses, sugar bowls, flasks and more exhibit and amazing delicacy and are examples of the highly-developed aesthetic sensibilities of the artisans of the time.
It is during this time that the historical record first takes note of oil lamps with colourful glass shades that would become the precursors of the Turkish Lamps we know today.

It was this time that Louis Comfort Tiffany, on one of his many European sojourns, first encountered them. He was so taken aback with what he had found in Constantinople (present day Istanbul) that he returned to his American workshop and set about to try to emulate it.
Tiffany made subtle changes to the production process and also tweaked the look of the glass itself to set them apart from their Byzantine progenitors then launched the new product in 1893 to a rapturous reception from consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.
From that point on the mosaic table lamp, which had been developed and refined in Asia Minor for hundreds of years, became widely known as the ‘Tiffany Lamp’

Most of us start decorating our home with a colour choice to make. Me personally I like bland colours for the walls, so pretty much every room in my home is Magnolia apart from the children's rooms. I like bland walls so that I can throw in big swatches of colour. Tester pot swatches are the right of passage most paint colours face as we try out our perfect paint colours in patches before committing to what will become a long term relationship. It’s such a faff and upheaval decorating, we all dither with that first tentative step, the paint choice.
There are so many trends around at the moment, so many ways to bring colour and texture into your home, it can be confusing to know where to start. I know I’m drawn to all kinds of looks and find it hard to settle on just one when I’m choosing for my own home. Maybe that’s because of all the wonderful designs, pattern and print I see on a daily basis, but if you love home interiors in the same way you might have the same problem.
So how do we choose a Turkish Lamp to go with our decor? Well its difficult really as there is a huge array of colour's with Turkish Lamps you may want to buy one that is a country mile away from your current colour scheme. That's ok, as Turkish lamps are mood lighting lamps, they set a scene of relaxation throughout the year and actually they all look pretty bland during daylight hours.

It is important we have an idea as to what type of lamp will best suit a room as it isn't every lamp style that will be appropriate for every room. For your kitchen, try placing a small pendant lamp just over the sink. Enhance the looks of your dining room by hanging a magnificent mosaic chandelier above the center of the table or hang a lamp in the foyer to welcome guests.
Mosaic lamps are usually very colourful and so you must factor in the colour of a room and its surroundings when buying mosaic lamps. It is advisable you take pictures of the room you want to decorate when going shopping to ensure that the lamp you want to buy matches the colour of the room.
One outstanding quality of Turkish Mosaic lamps is that they have very rich expressive patterns. You must carefully consider the patterns in your room, be it upholstery, wallpapers, throw rugs, etc before choosing which mosaic lamp best suits your needs.
Turkish Style Lighting:
Turkish mosaic lamps are not usually very bright and it is intentional. Their purposes are more of creating an ambiance as well as complimenting the entire décor of a room. Remember that mosaic lamps are artifacts and not designed for working. They are there to be admired and appreciated for its ageless beauty.
Turkish Lamps Size:
Also, important, is the size of the space you wish to illuminate as this will influence the size of the mosaic lamp you want to fix. Imagine putting up a gigantic lamp in a small space and vice versa; it can be overwhelming. You must strike a balance between the two.
Today, Mosaic lamps are one of the most versatile components of interior decoration. They enhance the beauty and authenticity of any room and they are sure to retain their value and ability to impress for many years to come.
